Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties

Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion, and Polk Counties, provides a safe, positive place for school-aged youth to learn and grow through afterschool and summer programming, youth athletics leagues, and teen centers with targeted teen programming. Each of the seven Clubhouses offers affordable and enriching after-school and summer programming with a focus on character & leadership, academic success, healthy lifestyles, and education & career development for youth ages 6-18.  Youth receive a hot meal every day, access to dental care for uninsured or underinsured youth, and homework help. The Club offers youth sports and athletics leagues for basketball, volleyball, and flag football. The Club works to meet the essential needs of every kid, helping them realize their full potential.

Learning to read is important. Learning to love reading can be life-changing.

Just ask Elijah.

When Elijah joined the Boys & Girls Club, reading felt frustrating and discouraging. Through our Rising Tides literacy program, he found caring mentors, opportunities to practice, and the confidence to keep going. This spring, he was recognized by his school as the “Most Improved Reader”—and discovered that he actually enjoys reading.

Stories like Elijah’s remind us why this work matters. Without access to learning opportunities during the summer, many children can lose valuable reading progress. Last summer, youth participating in our literacy programs achieved an average of 20% growth in their literacy skills because they had access to consistent support, engaging learning experiences, and adults who believed in them.

Your gift can help more children like Elijah build the skills, confidence, and love of reading they need to succeed in school and in life.
