BACK TO SCHOOL FAMILY HEALTH FAIR
A HIT WITH FAMILIES
On Thursday, August 14th from 4:00PM to 6:00PM the Boys & Girls Club hosted the second annual Back to School Family Health Fair. The event offered low income families in the community an oppor tunity to connect with resources to help stay healthy.
Over thirty organizations from Salem, Keizer and Gladstone were involved in bringing information and education. Of those the Lions Health Screening Unit offered free BP, glaucoma, hearing and diabetes screenings. Marion County Health Depar tment was on hand giving immunizations. In the Health Services Center students were screened for dental and vision needs. Tooth Fairy Dana was on hand to give out toothbrushes and encourage students to brush and floss daily. Free back to school haircuts were done by Phagan’s School of Beauty. Among community par tners with booths were No Meth Not in My Neighborhood, Red Cross, YWCA, and Women’s Crisis Services.
In addition this year was the giveaway of close to 1000 backpacks stocked with new school supplies. The giveaway was sponsored by the Salem Housing Authority, Chemeketa Non-Profit housing, and the Boys & Girls Club.
We are happy to say this years Back to School Family Health Fair was a success and served 1224 family members!
